Selecting the right vacuum cleaner for your household can be a tricky decision. A number of factors need to be assessed to ensure that the product meets all of your needs.
What are your cleaning requirements? What is your budget? Does a handheld vacuum make more sense for you or an upright model? Can the vacuum handle both carpets and hard floors?
These are some of the questions you need to ask yourself before you begin the search. These questions will be answered in this Shark NV801UKT review, and you will find out all of the features that make this a powerful and versatile upright vacuum.
The Shark Duoclean Powered Lift-Away is an upright vacuum cleaner that can handle most cleaning tasks. The Lift-Away technology ensures that it has all the benefits of an upright, with the added advantages of a handheld or stick vacuum.
This versatility makes it one of the best buys on the market at this moment in time.
- Detachable Lift-Away canister which converts it into a portable cleaner
- DuoClean cleaning head for a more effective and efficient clean
- Excellent at dealing with embedded pet hair
- On the expensive side (although it is on deal a lot of the time)
- Smaller dust capacity than a bagged vacuum – may need to empty more often
Shark have a great range of upright vacuum models that are equally adept at dealing with carpeted stairs, hair shed by your beloved pet that’s obstinately stuck on the sofa fabric and marble floors.
The price for Shark’s upright vacuum cleaners might seem a bit steep, but the features it boasts of and the ease of use make it worth the investment.
The NV801UK model is the best in Shark’s upright vacuum range. It delivers great performance and even though it is on the higher end of the price spectrum, it isn’t exorbitant.

About the Product
The body of the NV801UK is made of plastic, but don’t let that deter you. It is sturdy and weighs over 6 kgs. It takes just a few minutes to assemble the unit by following the instructions manual provided in the package.
You get three types of nozzles to tackle different types of dust and dirt. This particular model also has suction control.
One of the really thoughtful features is the option to take off the handle, which allows you to reach the various nooks and crannies in the house.
In fact, the entire upright section can be removed for the same effect, which essentially becomes a portable, handheld device and you can reach up to the top of the curtains or down under your beds.
This vacuum cleaner also does a great job in cleaning acute angles, which most others fail at. The 8m cord comes in handy in this case and unless you live in a mansion you won’t have to change sockets.

I’m not sure about the colour scheme of the product. The clip-ons are available in black, orange and white. But it does make the process of assembling the product quite easy because the parts are so distinctive.
We will discuss the DuoClean feature later on in more details, but I just wanted to mention it here because it’s a really nifty feature and significantly improves the performance.
Now let’s address one of the key pain points in regards to vacuum cleaners. As per my research, a lot of customers complain that a part of the dust collected in the vacuum dust bag leaks or escapes during every round of cleaning.
This defeats the purpose to a certain extent. This is where the NV801UK comes out on top, as it doesn’t have a dust bag at all. Instead, it provides a dust cup, which is detachable. You can empty it and clean it.
Even though it has a capacity of 1.1 litres, in my experience it makes sense to clean the dust cup every alternative day for best results. In addition to this, this vacuum cleaner also features something called the Anti-Allergen Complete Seal Technology. This provides further protection against leaking dust.
Last but not least, the vacuum has a small headlight fitted on it, which can prove useful to light up dark corners while cleaning.
This is a special feature of this vacuum cleaner. It essentially means that there are two separate brush rolls in the vacuum that perform different tasks.
Firstly, there is the soft brush roll, which is ideal for hard floors. It directly touches the floor and minutely cleans it. All dust or dirt that is stuck to the floor is taken care of by this brush roll.
Secondly, is a roll particularly meant for carpets and other deep pile fabrics. What this technology enables you to do is move from one room to the other and seamlessly clean all types of surfaces. No need to take off one attachment and add a different one for different surfaces.
Triple Particle Cleaning
Combining Shark’s DuoClean Technology with the Triple Particle Cleaning feature makes a massive difference. This feature is focused on removing debris, which is significantly bigger than dust particles and removing dust or dirt that’s stuck to the floor. It makes the cleaning process more efficient.
Lift-Away and Powered Lift-Away
The Lift-Away feature literally turns this vacuum into a two-in-one product. It’s an upright vacuum, but it’s also a portable, handheld vacuum. Yes, that’s right, you can turn it into a handheld unit. This allows you reach corners that aren’t possible originally.
The Powered Lift-Away feature adds an additional layer of functionality. It directly delivers power to the brush roll, which ensures that the brush rotates in tandem with the suction feature. This provides extra cleaning performance that most other vacuums don’t offer.

What We Liked
- It handles smooth, hard surfaces and rough surfaces equally well.
- You can use it as both, an upright vacuum and a handheld vacuum.
- It is sturdily built but light at the same time and can reach acute corners well.
- The nifty headlight feature helps with the corners as well.
What We Didn’t Like
- It’s not the best at picking up hair, particularly pet hair.
- Its price can seem a bit too high for the build quality it offers.
Shark NV801UKT Review: Final Thoughts
The price is a bit high, but it still delivers good performance. If you look at it as a two-in-one vacuum cleaner — an upright unit and a handheld unit — maybe the price will cease to matter.
However, there are other equally good vacuums available in the market, some more expensive and some less so. Ultimately the decision will come down to your needs, but I can fully recommend the Shark Duoclean Powered Lift-Away as a solid option in your cleaning arsenal.
